 Fair Play in Sports Reporting
"Did you know that, on the average, 90% of all column inches on the sports pages of newspapers goes to men’s sports; 5% to women’s sports and 3% to horse and dog racing? The same is true for television."

"Considering the fact that the media often shapes the country’s perceptions, looks like we have some work to do! Be active in either helping your media celebrate its fair coverage of girls and women in sports, or tweak their habits if they’re not getting the job done."

Keep Your Eye on the Media

Does the media give enough coverage to girls' and women's sports? If you don't know the answer, then start reading newspapers and magazines, watch TV, listen to the radio, and look at web sites. Then take action by letting the writers, editors, commentators and producers know how they're doing.

We've put a database together that will help you locate members of the media. You can call them, write letters, or send e-mail. Just click for contact information...
